In any season the quality of light here is amazing which is often described as luminous or radiant. The light on the Côte d'Azur is particularly striking in the summer months, when the sun is high in the sky and the sky is a deep blue.
It has long attracted artists and writers, who have been inspired by the vibrant colors and contrasts created by the light. Some famous artists and writers who have been inspired by the light on the Côte d'Azur include:
- Henri Matisse: who lived and worked on the Côte d'Azur for many years. He was particularly drawn to the bright, vibrant colors of the region, which he captured in his paintings.
- Pablo Picasso: who was here for several periods of his life. He was known for his use of light and color in his paintings, and the Côte d'Azur is thought to have influenced his work.
The wind is normally light and comes from the East across the Var. There is a lot of protection for Valbonne from the range of the Haute Alpes which lie to the North
